Behind the Scenes of Event Technology with Frosina Gashi

Eight years ago, Frosina Gashi began her journey at Messe and Congress Center Basel as an apprentice in event management. Today, she is a Senior Technical Manager overseeing major congresses and events. Her story exemplifies how far dedication, passion, and continued learning can take you within a company.

On her first day, Frosina witnessed multiple teams collaborating to deliver a successful World Congress of Surgery. That experience sparked her interest in event technology and logistics: “I was fascinated by what can be accomplished as a team” ,she recalls.

After completing her apprenticeship, she stayed on and earned her professional maturity diploma, followed by a MAS in Arts Management at ZHAW. This further education opened doors in leadership, cultural marketing, and entrepreneurship. “It showed me that with motivation and discipline, almost anything is possible, even under pressure,” she says.

This further education opened doors in leadership, cultural marketing, and entrepreneurship. “It showed me that with motivation and discipline, almost anything is possible, even under pressure,” she says.

Today, Frosina coordinates every technical aspect of events – from resource planning and budgeting to close collaboration with sales, project leads, and facilities. Large-scale international congresses present some of the biggest challenges, including European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC),  Annual Meeting of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) and Annual Meeting of the German, Austrian and Swiss Societies for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO), each with up to 5,000 participants and 30 rooms fully equipped for action. Her foresight and structured planning ensure seamless execution.

Core values like respect, open communication, and teamwork drive her leadership. Her empathy helps foster talent and build trust: “Good preparation is half the battle. In the end, it’s the team performance that counts,” she emphasizes.

Despite hurdles like the pandemic, staff turnover, and tight resources, Frosina is proud of what she and her team have achieved: “We didn’t just satisfy our clients – we impressed them.”

Looking ahead, she is motivated to share her knowledge and spotlight her team’s strengths.

«Technology is never created alone – it’s always a team effort.»
