From code to cosplay, FANTASY BASEL and WordCamp Europe turned our venue into a stage for two international highlights this May and June. Basel became the center of the WordPress community from 5 to 7 June, as 3,000 users and developers from 96 countries gathered at WordCamp Europe 2025 to exchange ideas on the world’s most widely used content management system. The close-knit community of users of the free open source software is actively involved in the further development of the digital platform, which powers 43% of all websites worldwide. WordCamp Europe took place for the 13th time and is an important counterpart to the WordCamp US and WordCamp Asia formats. Speakers dealt with topics such as SEO and website design, while workshops were used to directly develop code and answer relevant questions.For Basel, this event represents a further milestone in achieving the goals of the congress strategy, allowing the city to further raise its profile as a platform for knowledge and progress.

That our venue brings communities together and connects people was once again demonstrated by the 11th edition of FANTASY BASEL – The Swiss Comic Con at the end of May. Switzerland’s largest pop culture festival attracted 97,000 fans to Basel, filling the exhibition halls with games, excitement, and fun. Eight stages, numerous themed worlds, and around 800 exhibitors thrilled the crowds.
The event covered a wide range of themes including film, TV series, games, comics, anime, fantasy, and science, offering visitors an extraordinary variety of experiences. In the Cosplay Village, cosplayers showcased their intricately crafted costumes; in the Artist Alley, international artists gave insights into their creative process; and in the Community Hall, clubs, communities, and associations presented their hobbies. Those looking to test their superpowers could let off steam in the Sports & Action Zone. Numerous workshops and live demos turned FANTASY BASEL into an engaging experience for young and old alike – with even film stars mingling among the crowd.
