New Leadership in Customer Management Basel

Since August, Simone Weiss has taken on the role of Head of Customer Management Basel, leading the project management team at the Messe und Congress Center Basel. By bringing together project management for exhibition hall and congress events, expertise is being combined and collaboration across different event formats further strengthened.

Simone Weiss knows both the company and the event business from a variety of perspectives. Born and raised in Basel, she joined the company 15 years ago as an Executive Management Assistant. In 2018, she moved into Hall Marketing, where she took on responsibility for guest events. One of her first major projects was Chemspec Europe in 2019, followed shortly afterwards by Fantasy Basel. In 2023, she took over the leadership of the hall events team, managing four employees.

Over the past years, she has been involved in numerous events and exceptional projects. One particular highlight was the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, with its diverse formats and large interdisciplinary project team. For Simone, projects like these reflect what makes working in the event industry so rewarding: collaborating with a wide range of people, working as part of a strong team and knowing that hardly any two projects are the same.

In her new role, her focus is shifting from operational project management towards broader team and business management. In addition to leading the combined project management team, her responsibilities include budgeting, financial management and reporting. At the same time, she will become more closely involved in the congress business. She is also taking over various cross-functional responsibilities and special projects from Peter Jörg, including representing the venue on the Basel Autumn Fair Commission. Peter will continue to support Simone and the team during the transition, contributing his many years of experience.

Looking ahead, the event calendar for the coming years is well filled. Simone and her team will therefore focus on developing structures and collaboration that enable events across all areas to be delivered efficiently and reliably – ensuring that organisers continue to have an experienced project management team at their side.
