ESID 2028

International Scientific Congress Coming to Basel

Basel has secured another major international congress for the region: the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) will hold its European Congress, with 2,500 attendees, from 18-20 October 2028 at the Messe and Congress Center Basel.

ESID is the European professional society dedicated to primary immunodeficiencies. Since its founding in 1994, it has been committed to advancing research, education and interdisciplinary exchange among experts from clinical practice, science and patient care. Its mission is to improve the diagnosis, treatment and management of rare immune disorders through collaboration, research and high-quality scientific programmes.

We are proud to welcome this high-profile congress to our city on the Rhine. Its success reflects strong trinational collaboration: together with representatives of the University Hospitals of Strasbourg, Freiburg and Basel, as well as the Basel Convention Bureau, we were able to prevail in the competitive bidding process.

“The successful bid for ESID 2028 confirms Basel’s international standing as an attractive congress and life sciences destination. The close cross-border partnership with the three university hospitals played a decisive role in this achievement,” says Stefan Bonsels, Head of the Basel Convention Bureau.

Ideal Conditions within a Leading Life Sciences Ecosystem

Basel is one of Europe’s leading life sciences regions. International pharmaceutical and biotech companies, renowned research institutions and clinical centres create a unique ecosystem for medical and scientific conferences. This combination of research excellence, economic strength and global connectivity makes the city an ideal host for a congress such as ESID, which presents the latest developments in the diagnosis, treatment and care of rare diseases.

In addition to the main congress, meetings of the INGID (International Nursing Group for Immunodeficiencies) and IPOPI (International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies) will also take place, further strengthening the event’s interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach.

“Basel brings together expertise, research strength, and international networking in the fields of clinical and basic immunology. For the global immunodeficiency community, our location offers outstanding scientific and logistical conditions,” says Prof. Dr. Mike Recher, congress organizer, physician, and researcher in the field of immunodeficiency.

With ESID 2028, the Messe und Congress Center Basel further reinforces its role as a premier platform for international congresses in medicine, research and the healthcare sector, while generating sustainable economic impact for the region.
