In July, the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 will not only bring top-level women’s football to Basel, but will also transform the city into a vibrant hub of sporting and social encounters. As one of eight host cities, Basel will create special highlights with its fan zones at Barfüsserplatz and at MesseQuartier—innovative and interactive spaces that reflect all facets of the football world. These locations will welcome families, football enthusiasts, and visitors from around the globe to experience the energy and excitement of the tournament and immerse themselves in the life of the city.
A central gathering place: the Fan Zone at MQ as an urban meeting point
During the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, the MesseQuartier will be transformed into a vibrant hub for fans and all those eager to experience the full spectrum of women’s football. The Fan Plaza at MQ will serve as the central meeting point for football enthusiasts, families, and friends alike. At the Fan Zone on Messeplatz, everything revolves around the joy of movement. Highlights such as soccer courts, ball course, giant slide, water balls and public viewing invite young and old to actively participate and experience the event together.
Designed as a sports, play, and activity zone, it invites fans to get involved and be active: a soccer court with grandstand seating encourages both participation and cheering, while a ball parcours challenges visitors’ skills with the round ball. Water ball games and a giant slide offer high-energy refreshment. A goal wall and dribbling station provide even more sporting fun for the whole family. The public viewing area features large screens and a wide variety of food and beverage options. Together, these elements make the MQ Fan Zone a place of truly active fan experiences.

Strengthening fan culture and inspiring enthusiasm for women’s football
On match days, the fan marches start at Messeplatz and Barfüsserplatz: starting from these meeting points, the fans march together to the Joggeli Stadium.

“Walking together is real fan culture. We hope that many people will find enthusiasm for women’s football in this setting and become active – whether as coaches, referees or players,” says Sabine Horvath, overall project manager for UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 Basel.
Basel as an international stage for women’s football
For curious locals and visitors alike, the fan zones offer the perfect opportunity to experience the international event live and join in the celebration. The UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 further underscores Basel’s status as a major international event destination. In recent years, the city has increasingly established itself as a hub for global sporting events and a committed promoter of women’s football.
Through the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, Basel becomes more than just a football city—it becomes a cultural and social center where the sport and local identity merge in a truly unique way.

A visible sign for the future
While UEFA is responsible for the stadium and match operations, MCH Group is in charge of planning and operating the fan zones at Barfüsserplatz and Messeplatz. The experience gained from organizing the Eurovision Song Contest benefits everyone involved. Local stakeholders and supporters include Basel Tourism for all visitor and guest services, EuroAirport as the international gateway, and TeleBasel as media partner.
Museum Tinguely will also contribute to the unique atmosphere and fan activities during the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 with Klamauk, a mobile machine sculpture by Jean Tinguely. “Klamauk from Museum Tinguely will be a moving ambassador,” says Sabine Horvath. “Thanks to Basel’s wide range of local partners, we’re able to create outstanding fan experiences.”
