A record year 2019 ahead for the Congress Center Basel

Basel is Switzerland’s prime location for exhibitions and conferences with state-of-the-art infrastructure by architects Herzog & de Meuron. In 2019, Basel will be further strengthening its role as an international congress destination. The frequency of events at the Congress Center Basel is greater than ever before – including in the summer, which is generally a quieter period.

Next year, 2019, will be a record year for the Congress Center Basel (CCB) in terms of events and participant numbers. Throughout the year, events will be following in quick succession. “We are delighted that the efforts of the past few years dedicated to winning major international congresses for Basel are producing results once more. We have been working closely with the event organisers for many years, and we accompany organisers right from the very start. That is paying off”, says Jonas Scharf, Managing Director CCB. Working together with local ambassadors, the CCB converts the organisers’ ideas into a concrete concept. The service it provides also includes support in budget planning and bids for congresses and inspections.

In all the different seasons

he 2019 congress year gets off to a start with various small congresses in the first quarter, including the 50th Annual Meeting of the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers IAPCO, at which Basel will be thrust into the limelight of the global congress organising industry. As of May, one congress follows immediately after another, starting with the Annual Meeting of the German and Austrian Society for Epileptology and the Swiss Epilepsy League. This is followed by the congress of the Swiss Association of Nurses SBK-ASI. Also in May, the 43rd ICCM World Congress on Military Medicine will be occupying the entire infrastructure at the CCB. The congress spring comes to a close at the end of May with the three-day congress of the European Society for Developmental Perinatal and Pediatric Pharmacology ESDPPP 2019.

The CCB is particularly pleased that next year it will be able to stage a number of top-quality events in the summer too – a period which has traditionally seen more of a lull in the international congress business. Midway through June, the 12th International Symposium on Pediatric Pain will be taking place and, at the end of June, comes the 29th Regional Congress of the ISBT. At the end of July, we will be hosting the Leading Professional Society for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics ISMB/ECCB 2019 and, at the end of August, the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference APCCC 2019.

In the autumn, the density of congresses and other events picks up sharply again, and the CCB team looks forward to organising familiar and proven events, including BASEL LIFE 2019 and ABIM. This congress year with its exceptionally tightly packed schedule is then brought to a close with the 17th European AIDS Conference in November.

Modern infrastructure by Herzog & de Meuron

The Congress Center Basel – with its 25 modern rooms – is located in the heart of the city, right next to Messe Basel, and just a short walk away from numerous hotels. It is linked directly to the exhibition complex by architects Herzog & de Meuron. Only a few locations in Europe have a congress centre with a direct link to a 141,000-square metre exhibition site, which is what the Congress Center Basel is able to offer. This opens the door to congresses and conferences with an accompanying specialist exhibition or trade fair. Eleven modular rooms further expand the Congress Center Basel’s facilities. These are located on the ground floor and are directly accessible from the main entrance.
